On April 12, 2025, a tragic plane crash occurred near Copake, New York, resulting in the death of all six passengers aboard.

The plane involved was a Mitsubishi MU-2B, a twin-engine propeller aircraft, which was en route to Columbia County Airport in Hudson.

The crash took place around 12:15 p.m. local time, when the plane crashed into a marshy field near Copake.

The victims have been identified, including Karenna Groff, a former MIT soccer player and NCAA standout in 2022, along with her parents, Dr. Michael Groff and Dr. Joy Saini, her brother Jared Groff, Karenna’s boyfriend James Santoro, and Jared’s girlfriend Alexia Couyutas Duarte.

They were reportedly on a flight with Dr. Michael Groff, believed to be celebrating Karenna’s 25th birthday.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the weather conditions at the time of the crash were poor, with cloud cover at just 400 feet, the minimum required for instrument flight rules (IFR) landings at Columbia County Airport.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

This crash occurred just days after another fatal incident on the Hudson River, where a tourist helicopter crashed, killing all six people aboard.

Both incidents are under investigation by the relevant authorities to determine the causes and prevent future accidents.
