Johnny Depp to reprise 'Pirates' role with $301M deal: report

Johnny Depp may be set to set sail once again as the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film.

62-year-old actor Johnny Depp is reportedly in advanced talks to reprise his iconic role in a new installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise .

British news site Express reported that executives at Disney – the company behind the previous five films – have given the green light to the new project.

A senior executive revealed: “Everything is almost done. The script is ready and Disney sees this as a reboot of the series, which means Johnny has the opportunity to appear in many more films, despite what he has been through.”

Johnny Depp was previously fired from Disney after his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard , publicly wrote an article about being a victim of domestic violence (though she did not directly name Johnny Depp as the perpetrator).

After the article, a British newspaper called Johnny Depp a “wife beater”, causing him to be removed from many major projects, including the Fantastic Beasts series .

The actor lost his libel case against the British newspaper, but then won a civil lawsuit in the US against Amber Heard.

The result of the trial helped Johnny Depp regain his honor, while Amber Heard’s career almost collapsed.

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow causes mixed opinions

Although Johnny Depp is considered the “soul” of Pirates of the Caribbean , the actor’s return to this film after the scandals also received mixed opinions.

One account shared: ” Jack Sparrow is still great, even without Johnny Depp”; “The actor who plays Captain Barbosa, Oscar winner – Geoffrey Rush, acted better than Johnny Depp”.

Audiences believe that if all the original cast returns, the new Pirates of the Caribbean will have “huge” revenue.

However, most fans are looking forward to Johnny Depp’s return: “Disney, listen to the audience – they’re the ones buying the tickets.

You saw what happened with Snow White . No one wants to see Pirates of the Caribbean without Johnny Depp”; “I want Johnny Depp to come back one more time.

If the entire original cast returns, the final film will definitely earn $2.5 billion”.
