Rock diva Linda Ronstadt, now 78, recently opened up about the real reason she broke up with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
Their emotional relationship lasted from 1977 to 1978, and according to a close source, the “emotional tango” between the two ended when Mick’s then-wife, Bianca Jagger, unexpectedly flew to California to confront Linda after discovering her husband had been spending a lot of time at Linda’s beachside villa.
Looking back, Linda admitted that the relationship was an inspiring chapter in her life — she deeply admired Mick, both as a songwriter and as a person.
At one point, she even asked him to rewrite the lyrics to “Tumbling Dice” so she could perform it live — a gesture that showed not only her dedication to music, but also the mutual artistic respect between them.
However, behind the glamorous stage lights were the complicated layers of love in the world of showbiz.
On one hand, Linda cherished her freedom and found it difficult to commit to a traditional family life, especially while pursuing a full-time music career.
Her parents had encouraged her to sing, and she herself admitted that she wasn’t “cut out” for long-term fidelity.
On the other hand, even though she respected Mick deeply, the relationship proved too turbulent to last — especially after Bianca’s involvement turned everything into a public drama.
Linda’s message today isn’t one of regret or resentment, but of self-awareness.
She admits that she chose freedom and music — a path that meant giving up the stability of a conventional life.
That lifestyle, she says, always felt more natural to her than settling down.
Still, Linda Ronstadt has never hidden from passion — in music or in love — even when those passions couldn’t last.
She once said, “I’ve had my heart broken many times… When you choose to be a singer, you’re choosing a life that reflects that.”
In every melody, Linda remains a storyteller — with a free spirit, courage, and honesty.
Now, at 78, with her relationship with Mick Jagger only a distant but meaningful memory, she has made peace with her choices.
She chose music over attachment — and through that story, we’re reminded that freedom and passion often come at the cost of permanence in love.
