This praetorium is traditionally identified with the Antonia Fortress, a Roman military stronghold built by Herod the Great at the northeastern corner of the Temple Mount.

It was here that Pontius Pilate questioned Jesus.

The scene was tense and symbolic: an innocent man accused, political fear clashing with divine truth.

Pilate, pressured by the crowd, famously washed his hands, declaring himself innocent of Jesus’ blood (Matthew 27:24).
