Psy’s Shocking Arrest: The ‘Gangnam Style’ Star’s Prescription Scandal Unveiled!

Psy, the mastermind behind the record-breaking hit “Gangnam Style,” has found himself in hot water after being arrested on suspicion of violating South Korea’s Medical Service Act.

The news broke on August 27, when the Seodaemun Police Department in Seoul announced they had launched an investigation into the singer’s alleged misuse of prescription medications.

According to reports, Psy is accused of obtaining prescriptions for the psychoactive drugs Xanax and Stilnox from a hospital in Seoul since 2022, all without undergoing an in-person medical examination.

Compounding the issue, Psy reportedly did not collect the medications himself; instead, he had his manager pick them up on his behalf.

In response to the unfolding scandal, Psy’s management company, P Nation, issued a statement on August 28, acknowledging that a third party had collected the medication for Psy.

However, they vehemently denied any wrongdoing in the prescription process itself.

The statement read, “Regarding the issue of Psy’s sleeping medication being collected by a third party, it is clear that this was a mistake and a lapse in judgment on our part. We sincerely apologize.

Psy has been diagnosed with chronic insomnia and is taking sleeping medication as prescribed by his doctor.

The use of these medications is always monitored medically, with dosages prescribed correctly.

However, during this process, there was an instance where someone else collected the medication for him, and the police are currently investigating.

Once again, we apologize for causing public concern.”

Psy himself took to the media to express his regret, stating, “This is clearly a mistake and an act of carelessness.”

The doctor who prescribed these medications is also under investigation but has reportedly denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the treatment was conducted remotely.

Xanax is commonly used to treat anxiety disorders and alleviate symptoms, while Stilnox is prescribed for short-term treatment of insomnia in adults.

Both medications are classified as psychoactive drugs, requiring a doctor’s diagnosis and prescription.

Under South Korean law, psychoactive medications can only be prescribed after a direct consultation with a physician, and patients are typically required to collect their medications in person.

Only in very limited circumstances, such as through immediate family members or caregivers, is it permissible for someone else to collect the medication.

He began his artistic career in 2001 and is known for his humorous and self-deprecating persona.

In 2012, he released “Gangnam Style,” which took the world by storm, becoming the first music video in history to reach one billion views on YouTube.

Following the success of “Gangnam Style,” Psy released other hits such as “Gentleman” (2012), “Hangover” (2014), and “Daddy” (2015).

While these songs were successful, none reached the monumental heights of “Gangnam Style.”

On a personal note, Psy married Yoo Hye Yeon in 2006, and the couple has twin daughters together.
