Falcons’ Roster Shakeup: 12 Players Cut as Atlanta Prepares for Final Cuts!

The Atlanta Falcons have officially kicked off their roster cutdown process as they prepare for the NFL’s deadline to trim down to 53 players.

In a significant move on Saturday, the Falcons released 12 players from their 90-man roster, signaling the start of a crucial period for the team.

The players let go include:

Matthew Cindric, offensive lineman
Ben DiNucci, quarterback
Elijah Dotson, running back
Morgan Fox, defensive lineman
Lamar Jackson, cornerback
Caleb Johnson, inside linebacker
Nikola Kalinic, tight end
Nick Kubitz, inside linebacker
Jesse Matthews, wide receiver
Ronnie Perkins, edge rusher
Quincy Skinner Jr., wide receiver
Josh Thompson, safety

In addition to these cuts, the Falcons placed offensive lineman Jake Hanson on injured reserve, meaning he will not return for the entire regular season.

Hanson suffered an undisclosed injury during the fourth quarter of the preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys and had only recently joined the team on August 9, just a day after their first preseason game.

Among the released players, the most surprising cut was defensive lineman Morgan Fox.

Fox was part of the Falcons’ initial wave of signings during free agency and brought with him a wealth of experience, having appeared in 120 games over eight seasons in the NFL.

Despite his veteran status, Fox struggled during the preseason, recording only four tackles, with just one tackle for a loss, across all three games.

This decision reflects the Falcons’ desire to streamline their roster and make room for players who can contribute more effectively as the regular season approaches.

With these cuts, the Falcons’ roster now stands at 77 players, but they will need to make another 24 cuts by the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday.

As the team navigates this challenging time, fans will be watching closely to see how the final roster shapes up and which players will earn a spot on the 53-man team.
