Whoopi Goldberg EXPLODED: Shares Her Message To People Who Want ‘The View’ Taken “Off Television”

The View may be one of the most popular talk shows on air today, but it’s true you can’t please everyone, and the program certainly has its fair share of detractors. Of course, as moderator and a longtime member of the Hot Topics panel, Whoopi Goldberg is well aware her show has some dedicated haters, but she shared a message on today’s episode responding to people who want to pull The View off the air.
(Editor’s Note: The View has not been canceled; The View is currently on hiatus. This story was originally published on March 13, 2025, when the episode first aired. The View will return with new episodes next week.)

During a chat about Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s podcast discussion with right-wing media figure Steve Bannon, the panel discussed how successful Newsom’s meeting with Bannon was and how useful podcasts are as a way to connect with people with different political views.
While the panel was widely critical of Newsom’s episode with Bannon — with Sunny Hostin even describing the interview as “one of the most inauthentic things” she has seen the California governor do — Goldberg used the debate as an opportunity to discuss the differing viewpoints on their own show.
“People assume that we believe whatever they believe that we believe,” Goldberg said.

If you’re a bit confused by that quote (Joy Behar certainly was, bluntly telling Goldberg “No” when asked if she knew what Goldberg meant), thankfully, the moderator explained a bit more.
“Well, people believe that they know everything I think and believe. They don’t,” Goldberg said. “But one of the ways that you learn what people believe is to hear them talk. One of the things that people would love to see is, people are always saying, ‘You should take The View off television.’

“You know why? Because we give you an opportunity. We don’t tell you what to think. We say, ‘This is what I think!’” Goldberg exclaimed. “And when we do that, that is how you have the dialogue. It’s not personal, you know?”
Ever the comedian, she then joked, “Sometimes somebody will say, ‘That shirt looks a little tight on you, Whoopi,’ but that’s not a bad thing!
“But it becomes an awful thing when people get personal about you or your family,” She added. “See, that’s the difference. We don’t do that here. Other people do it to us.”
