The promotional boss has already dismissed the idea of re-booking the clash between McGregor and Michael Chandler that was due to take place in 2024. And he has now branded a potential Jorge Masvidal fight as ‘goofy s—‘.

Five years on from his last fight, McGregor is still the biggest star in the sport and UFC White House will be the most monumental event in company history. But White doesn’t seem too keen on making any of the matches that would entice him into a comeback.

Dana White shuts down ‘goofy’ Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal fight

In a recent chat with TMZ Sports, Dana White was asked about the possibility of matching Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal for the White House event. He insisted that he hadn’t even heard the rumors, before branding them ‘goofy s—‘.

“I didn’t hear that,” he replied when the bout was mooted. “You know what’s funny? In my algorithm on Instagram I have nothing MMA, literally nothing MMA pops up… There’s some politics but I don’t listen to any of the goofy s— that goes on.”

When asked if McGregor vs Masvidal was considered “goofy s—“, White doubled down. “That’s goofy s—, yeah,” he replied. “I don’t listen to any of that s— in the MMA world, literally none of that is on my algorithm.

“So people say ‘oh did you hear about?’ No… Literally almost everything you see on the internet about our sport is all wrong.”

UFC White House matchmaking will begin next week

In some good news for fight fans after that disappointing bombshell, White noted that he was bringing forward plans to matchmake for the June 14 showcase. He had previously insisted on not touching the event until February, but now says that planning will start next Monday.

“So this Saturday, when this fight ends, usually every Tuesday we have matchmaking,” he explained. “Monday, we will be matchmaking. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday we will be building the White House card as soon as that fight’s done.

“We’ll build the card and once we start to build the card and we have the top three fights, Craig [Borsari, UFC’s Chief Content Officer] will fly to DC, sit down with Ivanka [Trump] and the President. He wants Ivanka to be a part of this.

“We were talking about it last night. I said I wouldn’t touch this card until February, now I think we’ll have it dialled in by the second week of February.”
