As a dad of three, 45-year-old Tom Llamas is likely used to multitasking, which will help him when he steps into his new role at the anchor of NBC Nightly News while continuing to host Top Story with Tom Llamas on NBC News NOW.
Throughout his years at NBC, Llamas has been able to take his family along on quite a few adventures, including a journey to Paris for the 2024 Olympics and checking out the new Universal Epic Universe.
The broadcast journalist and his media producer wife, Jennifer Llamas, are raising two daughters, Malena and Juliette, and a son, Thomas.
Llamas admits that they couldn’t tell their youngest about his new job right away “because he’s got a huge mouth.” With a big smile, the news anchor added that they had to wait to tell him until his promotion was “official.”

The son of Cuban refugees who fled the country during Fidel Castro’s communist regime, Llamas is a proud Cuban American.
“From a young age, it was instilled in me to be proud of where I came from,” he wrote in a 2021 essay for TODAY.com.
Now Llamas is sharing that pride with his own family. Here’s more about Llamas’s three children.
Malena Llamas, born 2013
Llamas shared an Instagram carousel on March 11 to celebrate his oldest daughter’s “golden birthday.”
In the cover image, Malena is wearing a birthday crown and a huge smile as she poses with an absolutely gigantic ice cream dessert.
Other photos in the post show Malena at Halloween, on stage after a theatrical performance, on the field with her baseball-playing brother and on set with the NBC Nightly News Kids Edition, a special version of the show created by previous host Lester Holt.
Juliette Llamas, born 2015
In June 2024, Llamas posted sweet images of his middle child, Juliette, on her Communion day.
Wearing a simple white dress, a white headband and a gold religious medal, Juliette looked shyly excited to be the focus of attention.
The proud dad included a video of Juliette walking down the church aisle during the service while all of the children are singing, “We are the Light of the World.”
And from the impressive floor routine Llamas posted of his daughter last year, it looks like Juliette is quite an accomplished gymnast, too.
Thomas Llamas, born 2017
In October 2024, Llamas wrote an essay for Men’s Health about sharing his love of music with his only son, Thomas.
Music, especially Cuban music, was a “conversation starter” for Llamas and his father, and he wanted to share the tradition with his son … even if that means shocking other parents by blasting Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” as he idles in the elementary school drop-off line.
Though it looks as if Thomas and his dad are Yankees fans, that doesn’t stop them from traveling to Citi Field to film the Nightly News: Kids Edition.
