A ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star lost his father on Thursday, June 26.
Ryan Hurst, who played Opie on Sons of Anarchy for five seasons, lost his father, Richard Hurst, on June 26. The elder Hurst was also an actor, best known for playing Deputy Cletus Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard from 1980 to 1983.
TMZ first reported Hurst’s death, which was announced on the official Facebook page for Cooter’s Place museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, because the elder Hurst had been scheduled to appear there July 3-7. Cooter’s Place is a museum and theme store founded by actor Ben Jones, who played mechanic Cooter Davenport on The Dukes of Hazzard. There are three locations — two in Tennessee and one in Virginia.

On Ryan Hurst’s Instagram page, fans are flooding the comments of his most recent post with condolences about his father.
“Condolences Ryan… your dad was a great guy….,” wrote one fan, to which another replied, “He was a great actor, I hope he’s patrolling with ol’ Roscoe in that beautiful county in the sky ❤️.”
A third fan wrote, “Condolences on the loss of your dad, I hope and pray you have peace in these coming hours, days, months and years!”

“So horribly sorry to hear about the loss of your father. He was such a huge part of my childhood, as you have been a large part of my adulthood. May he rest in peace and may you find comfort knowing the love he has for you,” wrote a fourth fan.
After The Dukes of Hazzard, the elder Hurst went on to appear on 227, Murder She Wrote, Perfect Strangers, The Wonder Years, Evening Shade and The John Larroquette Show, among many others.
