Rachel Maddow ABANDONED as Show Ends, Producer OUT! Is Her $25 Million Payday Over?!
Rachel Maddow’s return to nightly television for MSNBC’s 100-day coverage of President Trump’s second term has concluded, leaving behind a trail of significant changes at the network.
As MSNBC prepares for its upcoming spin-off, ‘SpinCo,’ and grapples with internal restructuring, Maddow’s future at the network remains a topic of discussion.
Maddow’s Return and Departure
In January 2025, Rachel Maddow resumed her weeknight hosting duties to cover the first 100 days of President Trump’s new administration.
This temporary return replaced Alex Wagner’s program and was part of MSNBC’s strategy to provide in-depth analysis during a pivotal political period.
Following the conclusion of this special coverage on April 30, Maddow has returned to her regular schedule, hosting her show on Mondays.
She continues to explore other projects, including film and podcast initiatives, under her company, Surprise Inside.
Producer Exit Amid Network Changes
As part of MSNBC’s broader restructuring, a significant number of staff members associated with Rachel Maddow’s and Joy Reid’s primetime shows have been let go.
While Maddow retains her executive producer, Cory Gnazzo, and several senior producers, the majority of her team has been offered severance packages or the opportunity to reapply for new roles within the network.
This move aligns with Comcast’s plan to spin off NBCUniversal’s cable assets, including MSNBC, into a separate entity by the end of 2025.
Maddow’s New Deal and Salary Adjustment
Despite the network’s financial challenges, Rachel Maddow has secured a new contract with MSNBC.
Reports indicate that her annual salary has been adjusted to $25 million, down from the previously reported $30 million.
This adjustment reflects the network’s ongoing efforts to realign its financial commitments amid restructuring.
Maddow’s new deal also provides her with increased scheduling flexibility, allowing her to pursue a broader range of projects within NBCUniversal, including film and television series.
CBS Faces $20 Billion Lawsuit Over Harris Interview
In a related development, CBS News and its parent company, Paramount Global, are embroiled in a legal dispute with President Donald Trump.
Trump has filed a $20 billion defamation lawsuit, alleging that CBS’s ’60 Minutes’ program deceptively edited an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris to distort her comments on Middle East policy.
The lawsuit, filed in December 2024, claims that the edited segment misrepresented Harris’s response, potentially influencing public opinion during the election period.
In response, CBS has denied the allegations and released the full, unedited interview to substantiate its editorial integrity.
Mediation efforts are underway, with Paramount reportedly considering a settlement offer ranging from $15 million to $25 million.
This is significantly lower than Trump’s initial $100 million demand.
The controversy has led to internal tensions at CBS, including the resignation of ’60 Minutes’ Executive Producer Bill Owens, who cited concerns over journalistic independence.
