Paddy Pimblett does not believe the all-time top spot is unreachable.

‘The Baddy’ is rapidly approaching the biggest fight of his career to date, as he looks to extend his unbeaten UFC record in what will mark his very first title shot.
In the absence of champion Ilia Topuria, Pimblett will fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 for a newly created interim lightweight title.
The decision to grant the Scouser an opportunity over top contender Arman Tsarukyan caused uproar, with many dismissing Pimblett’s title shot worthiness off the back of beating Michael Chandler.
Pimblett is not letting that sentiment affect his determination to walk out of Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena with gold in his possession, and the always-confident Scouser thinks that could mark the start of his journey to surpassing the division’s biggest legends.
Paddy Pimblett backs himself to overtake Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev
Despite holding onto his UFC ‘0’ through seven fights inside the Octagon thus far, many continue to dismiss Pimblett’s ability to compete with the elite of the lightweight division.
After a win at UFC 324, ‘The Baddy’ plans to prove those doubters wrong in a future fight against Topuria, but that undisputed title crowning would be part of a larger, bolder goal.
Speaking exclusively to Bloody Elbow via Casino Guru ahead of UFC 324, Pimblett suggested that surpassing Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev to become the greatest lightweight of all time is not an impossible target.
“Of course,” Pimblett said when asked if he sees a path to overtaking Nurmagomedov and Makhachev in the GOAT race at 155 pounds.
“What are you in the sport for if you don’t think you can do that? It’s just pointless being an MMA fighter if you don’t think you can do that.
“I’m already towards the top of the tree, anyway,” he added.
“A lot of people talk s— about me 24/7, but when you’ve got the belts around your waist, it makes it a waste of time on their part.”
Paddy Pimblett reminds Dana White of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s biggest rival
The fan comments Pimblett referred to were also recently referenced by the UFC president.
Dana White compared Pimblett to Conor McGregor, highlighting that, similar to the Irishman’s early days in the UFC, many are always expecting ‘The Baddy’ to be exposed inside the Octagon.
“Well, he reminds me of the Conor McGregor story,” White told TMZ Sports.
“He came in with this great personality, and they were always overlooking him. Every time they fought, everybody believed they were going to lose.
“Paddy has been that guy more so than Conor McGregor,” he continued. “Every time (Pimblett) fights, he’s the underdog, and people think he’s gonna lose.”
The Scouser has continued to prove his detractors wrong, and he will hope to do so once again by having interim gold wrapped around his waist on January 24.
