This past weekend was a busy one for the MMA veteran and former UFC middleweight champion.

Rockhold joined forces with Colby Covington to mock Bo Nickal ahead of his debut at Real American Freestyle’s event in Sunrise, California.

The following day, Covington beat Rockhold in impressive fashion in the main event before targeting even bigger names for his next match.

His opponent, on the other hand, seemingly wants to continue his recent trend of testing himself in different promotions each time he makes the walk.

Since his final UFC fight in 2022, Luke Rockhold has stayed active by competing in various promotions and rulesets.

His only win since parting ways with the leading MMA promotion came when Rockhold knocked out Joe Schilling in his Karate Combat debut in 2024.

Following this impressive knockout, he’s lost three contests in three different promotions, with Real American Freestyle being the latest to welcome the former UFC champion.

Rockhold’s knockout loss to Darren Till appeared to mark a moment in his career where if he was going to continue to compete, it would be in rulesets like grappling.

However, the 41-year-old said on Instagram while reflecting on this past weekend that there’s another striking-based promotion that he wants to tick off the list.

“Compete, challenge myself, get in shape, learn a new sport and get paid with no risk,” Rockhold wrote. “Lost a few points but had a good time. Happy to see wrestling make it to the big stage. Power slap, see you soon.”

Luke Rockhold echoed a similar sentiment in his first statement after RAF loss

Luke Rockhold’s post on Instagram mentioned something that he also spoke about when commenting on one of Real American Freestyle’s posts after his debut loss.

The former UFC champion wrote, “Happy to help the sport” underneath a post about Colby Covington securing the win.

Helping to attract more fans to wrestling while competing in a sport where he’s unlikely to take much physical damage appears to have been a great move for Rockhold even though he lost.

If he’s truly serious about competing in Power Slap, that would be at the other end of the scale for valuable pursuits at this stage in his career.
