King is reportedly eager to cut ties with CBS because she doesn’t want her legacy tarnished by the network’s ongoing poor ratings and messy scandals.

Additionally, insiders claim that network executives now see her $10 million salary as “too hard to justify,” and that Gayle King views the changes to her show’s location as a “personal attack.”

At the end of her one-year contract, Gayle King might be wrapping up her 15-year stint at CBS.

The renowned TV personality signed a $10 million one-year deal with the network in 2024 but is now “set to quit” due to CBS’s declining ratings and ongoing scandals, such as the network’s legal feud with President Donald Trump.

“This could be Gayle’s last year,” a source told the New York Post, while another insider commented that it would be a “miracle” if King renews for another one-year deal.

Amid the speculations about her potential departure, a different source shared more insight into why King is desiring to cut ties with CBS.

“She didn’t sign up for this mess. It’s over,” the source told Hollywood insider Rob Shuter. “She’s still one of the most respected names in news, and she’s being dragged down by chaos she can’t control.”

According to the insider, King, particularly, “doesn’t want her legacy tied to these ratings or this mess” and is now “weighing her next move carefully.”

The Journalist Is ‘Livid’ Over Changes To Her Show’s Location

Previously, CBS relocated King’s morning show to its former residence at CBS Broadcast Center, which is far less lavish than the Times Square studio it was being hosted at before the change.

This move by the network has left King feeling “livid,” especially because she thinks she deserves the best.

“Gayle is livid,” a source expressed how the TV personality feels about the changes. “She sees this as a personal attack. She only signed a one-year extension, and this was not part of the deal.”

“She made it very clear – she’s not going to be shoved into some dingy little room,” they added, per Radar Online. “She expects the same level of comfort and prestige she had at 1515 Broadway. No exceptions.

Things Are Reportedly ‘Falling Apart’ At CBS As They Consider ‘New Anchors’

Regarding the change of location for the morning show, one source said that things are “all falling apart” at CBS.

“They’re not just changing studios – they’re changing the show. And yes, they’re considering new anchors,” said the insider.

The source also pointed out that the network move was “all about saving money” on all arms of the business.

Gayle King Recently Joined Other Female Stars For A Trip To Space

While things might not exactly be rosy for King in terms of her career, she seems to be having a swell time in her personal endeavors.

Last month, she joined five other high-profile women, including Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez, on Blue Origin’s historic all-female spaceflight.

The groundbreaking 11-minute journey marked the first human spaceflight since 1963 to launch without a single male crew member.

“I really am proud of me, because I never in a gazillion years thought I could do this,” King gushed upon her return, per People Magazine. “I walked out of there thinking, ‘Gosh, I can do anything!’”

Gayle King Wants To ‘Get Married’ Again

Having checked space exploration off her bucket list, Gayle King is now looking forward to getting married again in the near future.

She revealed the lighthearted goal during an appearance at the TIME 100 Gala in April 2024 when asked about her next big goal by People Magazine. At the time, she playfully replied, “Getting married,” before quipping, “No, piercing my ears.”

Whoever the lucky person may be, King confirmed during a May 2024 interview on “The Tamron Hall Show” that he would “definitely be younger.”

“I don’t want to date somebody I could have given birth to,” King noted at the time, adding, “I don’t want to be a nurse or a purse. I would like it that they have all of their teeth. That would be nice.”

King was previously married to William Bumpus from 1982 until their split in 1993. Together, they have two children: a daughter, Kirby Bumpus, 38, and a son, William Bumpus Jr., 37.
