Cardi B’s courtroom testimony has gone viral because of the rapper’s hilarious responses and facial expressions – and here are some of the moments that have made the rounds online.

Biography: Cardi B

Cardi B is on trial after being accused of assaulting a security guard during an altercation outside an obstetrician’s office back in 2018.

The alleged victim, Emani Ellis, is allegedly suing the rapper for $24 million, claiming she cut her face with a fingernail and spat on her during an altercation at the medical facility, which had been closed to other patients for Cardi’s privacy. At the time, the Bodak Yellow star was four months pregnant with the first of her three children with rapper Offset, and was concerned that the news would come out as she hadn’t announced her pregnancy publicly yet.

She said Ellis followed her to her fifth-floor appointment and they had an argument after the security guard appeared to be filming her, making Cardi worried she would out the fact that she was pregnant. Cardi denies that any physical contact occurred, but moments from the trial have gone viral online due to the rapper’s facial expressions and her candid responses during cross-examination.

‘Real hair’ question

While questioning the rapper, defense lawyer Ron Rosen pointed out that Cardi had attended the trial with different hair – and asked which one is her real one. He asked, “Yesterday you had black hair, short hair, today it’s blond. Which one is your real hair? Or are they both real?”

Chuckling at the bizarre question, the rapper replied, “They’re wigs.” She then went on to make a funny facial expression before the attorney said, “Sorry, I didn’t know that.”

Cardi continued smiling as she looked surprised even after their brief exchange. The attorney then went on to ask if the singer has any affiliation with a gang – which she didn’t answer following an objection – before he asked her to share some details on her fingernails and on the type of manicures she gets.

Acrylic nails comments

A significant chunk of the testimony was spent on the acrylic nails with rhinestones Cardi had the week of the alleged incident – and whether they could do the damage that’s alleged. “It wasn’t a shape that was harming, it was coffin-shaped,” she said. “They weren’t sharp.”

Ellis testified earlier in the trial that the incident left her humiliated and traumatized, and the scar on her face required cosmetic surgery. Ellis, who lost her job over the incident, is seeking damages that include medical expenses, compensation for emotional and physical suffering, and lost wages, along with punitive damages. She does not specify a total amount in the lawsuit but Cardi said from the stand that she is “suing me for $24 million.”

Tense exchange with defense attorney

During a tense exchange with the defense attorney, Cardi declared, “I don’t think I was like on a high level of angry. I was more on a high level of concern. Very concerned.” The lawyer asked, “And why were you concerned?”

“Because I’m pregnant and this girl is about to f—–g beat my a–. Hello?” The attorney replied, “Hello, I’m here.” Both women are 32 years old and about the same height, but Cardi said Ellis was bigger than her.

“She is like, security-heavy,” Cardi said. “She just looks a little, like she could protect the building.”

Rapper shares her version

Sharing her own version of the event, Cardi said, “You’re following me. You’re recording me. I’m just tryina check my cat. You’re recording me.”

Tierra Malcolm, the receptionist from the doctor’s office who got between the two women and broke up the argument, gave testimony Wednesday that mostly supported Cardi’s account. She said she came into the hallway after hearing a ruckus outside but saw no physical fighting. She later noticed a scratch on her own face that she assumed came from Ellis, because she had been facing her with her back to Cardi.

Asked to characterize the argument, Malcolm said she wasn’t sure if she could swear in court. “We’ve heard just about everything so far, so it’s okay,” Judge Ian C. Fusselman said to laughs from much of the courtroom.

Making courtroom laugh

Cardi’s funny personality made the entire courtroom laugh at a few points during her testimony. After he repeatedly asked her if she was disabled, Cardi replied, “At that moment, when you’re pregnant, I’m very disabled. You want me to tell you the things I can’t do,” to laughter from the courtroom.

The testimony came at a small courthouse outside Los Angeles in Alhambra, where trials involving celebrities are very rare. The trial is taking the rest of the week off and is expected to resume, and conclude, next week.
