Afamiliar face at Fox News affiliate KABB is leaving the San Antonio airwaves after a two-decade career. In a frank June 27 social media statement, anchor Andrew Capasso said he was taking a break to help his wife, Kate, recover from breast cancer.

“Family is everything. Unfortunately, it took my wife’s cancer diagnosis for me to truly understand that,” wrote Capasso. “I’ve decided to leave San Antonio and, at least for now, press pause on my 20-year career in TV news. Our family needs time to heal from a very difficult two years, and they’re getting all of me to start that process.”
Capasso joined the KABB crew as a morning anchor in 2023, replacing Ernie Zuniga. Before that, he had stints at various news stations across the country, most recently in Tucson, Arizona.

He first revealed Kate’s cancer diagnosis in October 2024, using his family’s personal journey to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
During her treatment, he was only on the air sporadically while traveling back and forth to Houston’s MD Anderson.
The morning personality did not reveal an exact timeline for the departure but promised he had a few more weeks on the job.
He said he would reveal details of his next move at a later date.

Capasso took time to thank his colleagues for their understanding and caring. He thanked co-anchor Ashley Sutton and meteorologist Brad Sowder for tolerating his “dad jokes.”
San Antonio has seen a number of departures in the first half of 2025. Among the more notable exits were Robert Price at KABB and Phil Anaya at KENS 5, both of which had served their respective stations for 14 years.
Broadcasting icon Deborah Knapp also retired from KENS 5, capping off an almost 50-year journalism career.
