Throughout a wrestler’s career, there is a huge focus on staying healthy and having the greatest physique possible, which is something that takes a lot of their time. It isn’t just competing in the ring, it is the devotion to diet and training consistently throughout the week, and for many that then becomes a way of life.
Plenty of wrestlers continue to stay in fantastic shape after their time inside the ring ends, but that isn’t the case for everyone. Many wrestlers let their physiques go after their stints with WWE came to an end, with some doing that because of a voluntary decision, and others due to health implications.
Road Dogg
Road Dogg was never someone who put a major focus into being jacked like his tag team partner Billy Gunn, however, he has always been in good shape throughout his career in wrestling. However, since retiring from the business he has taken a more relaxed approach in that regard.
Road Dogg still appears on television occasionally, and while there’s no doubt that he has let himself go when it comes to his physique, he is just as entertaining as ever. Fans always loved the D-Generation X star for his promos, which is a skill he hasn’t lost.
Lex Luger
Lex Luger had one of the greatest physiques in wrestling history, with the former WWE and WCW star putting a lot of focus on his body. The fact that Luger was so jacked makes it such a surprise when people see him today, as Luger has lost a lot of weight and is now in a wheelchair most of the time.
This is because he suffered a nerve impingement which unfortunately changed his life completely. It’s a sad situation for someone who was so healthy and worked hard on that aspect of his life, but he still pushes himself with walking short distances when possible.
Kassius Ohno
Many fans know Kassius Ohno because of his second run in WWE, but he had already been working for the company before that, and he did so with a very different physique. Ohno was far smaller during his first run, and after he got released he did end up gaining weight on the independent scene.
Even though he was visibly different when he returned to the company, that didn’t change his in-ring ability in the slightest. He was great to watch in NXT with his hard-hitting style that is filled with strikes being a lot of fun to watch for fans.
Jake Roberts
Jake Roberts’ battles with health have been very public over the years, with the Hall of Famer not shying away from the fact he has dealt with hard times. With issues in his private life well known among fans, the reason he ended up gaining a lot of weight is not a secret.
However, rather than just accepting that, he made an effort to change things. With the help of DDP and his yoga treatment, Roberts lost a lot of weight and got himself back into much better shape which was a journey many fans went on with him.
Tommy Dreamer
At no point in his career has Tommy Dreamer been considered a body guy, as that wasn’t something that he pushed at any point. For Dreamer, it was all about his heart and spirit inside the ring as that is what led to him connecting with the fans at such a strong level.
However, even though he still competes inside the ring to this day for Impact Wrestling, there’s no doubt that Dreamer has put on some weight over the years. It is something he and Bully Ray constantly joke about on Busted Open Radio, with the ECW star being self-aware.
Scott Hall
Scott Hall also struggled with weight issues throughout his life post-WWE, but unlike some wrestlers who retired he didn’t just sit and accept it. Hall dealt with many struggles in his personal life, and as he battled those issues he did see his weight gain rapidly.
However, he worked hard after getting clean to fix that and there’s no doubt that he ended up in fantastic shape before he sadly passed away. Hall always looked great when appearing on WWE television in recent years, and that was down to his efforts alone alongside DDP.
Sunny
Sunny was well known for her appearance throughout the years she spent in wrestling as that is something that WWE pushed heavily. However, after leaving the company there have been many difficulties for her, which is often a theme with talents who end up gaining weight.
That is a situation that she went through, putting less focus on her physique after her career came to an end. She has gained weight since, and unfortunately for Sunny her pictures often only end up appearing in negative news nowadays.
Goldust
Nowadays Goldust is in fantastic shape, and that is clear to see when he competes in AEW. The reason he is still able to work at a high level is because of the fact he looks after his body, but much earlier in his career that wasn’t the case, and it saw him gain a lot of weight.
This came after his WWE run and was very noticeable during his time working for TNA. This was a low period for his career as he was dealing with battles personally which distracted his focus. However, he deserves huge credit for completely turning things around and adding many years to his career as a result.
Yokozuna
Yokozuna was always one of the heaviest wrestlers in WWE, as he was a superheavyweight. The fact he could still move with pace and appear agile inside the ring is what made him a joy to watch because people of his size are rarely able to do that.
Unfortunately, that is something that ended up becoming a problem for him as he continued to get bigger later on in his life. This became a much bigger issue after he left WWE, and even though he was still wrestling on the independent scene it wasn’t the legendary Yokozuna fans knew and loved.
Ahmed Johnson
During his professional wrestling career, Ahmed Johnson had one of the most imposing physiques in the business. He would tower over the majority of his opponents, and the strength and power that he had was something that could match his height.
Unfortunately, after his time at the heights of professional wrestling came to an end Johnson didn’t keep on top of that aspect. He ended up gaining plenty of weight after, which is something that has often surprised wrestling fans.
