Marvin Winans Opens Up About His Battle with Bladder Cancer
Marvin Winans, a celebrated figure in gospel music and ministry, has courageously shared the details of his recent cancer diagnosis, providing an intimate look into his experience from the initial symptoms to his ongoing treatment and spiritual reflections.
His testimony is not just about illness but about the profound intersection of faith, doubt, and healing.
The journey began over two years ago when Marvin noticed something unusual.

“I woke up and the light was hurting my eyes,” he recalled.
This persistent sensitivity to light prompted him to seek medical attention.
Initially, routine blood tests did not reveal anything alarming, but a more troubling symptom emerged—he was experiencing bleeding.
This led to a visit to the emergency room where doctors recommended surgery.
During the early morning hours after surgery, Marvin was confronted with the devastating news.

A doctor, whom he had never met before, explained that he had bladder cancer and outlined the potential treatments, including the possibility of removing the bladder and using a catheter bag.
The timing and manner of the diagnosis were shocking, and Marvin admitted he struggled to accept the information immediately.
“I told him, ‘I don’t believe nothing you’re saying,’” he said, reflecting the natural human response to such life-altering news.
Despite the shock, Marvin’s faith remained a cornerstone of his response.
He began conversing with God, affirming his belief that he was not defined by this illness.

The doctors prescribed a course of BCG therapy—an immunotherapy treatment involving a series of six injections designed to stimulate the immune system to fight the cancer.
After completing the initial treatment, Marvin underwent a cystoscopy, a procedure where a camera is inserted into the bladder to inspect for tumors.
During one such procedure, Marvin vividly remembered watching the screen as the doctor identified a cauliflower-like tumor mass.
The sight was unsettling, but it confirmed the diagnosis.
Over time, he was transitioned to another doctor due to the retirement of the first.

This new physician also confirmed the cancer’s presence and warned that surgery might still be necessary if the treatment failed.
Marvin’s treatment plan included another round of BCG therapy, which he began in May.
He balanced his treatments with commitments, including attending his church’s holy convocation, demonstrating his determination to maintain normalcy amid the health crisis.
After completing the therapy, another cystoscopy was scheduled to assess progress.
Throughout this ordeal, Marvin wrestled with doubt—a natural companion to any serious illness.

However, he shared a powerful spiritual insight: “Doubt and faith cannot operate in the same spot.”
He described a moment during prayer when the Holy Spirit reminded him that doubt is the enemy and that holding onto suspicion of God’s promises undermines healing.
This revelation encouraged him to fully surrender his fears.
In a touching moment of communal faith, Marvin invited a fellow church member named Kim to pray for him during a service.
He instructed her to pray with unwavering faith, without doubt.

Her heartfelt prayer for healing was met with applause from the congregation, reflecting the collective hope and support surrounding Marvin.
Following the prayer, Marvin went to his next medical appointment with renewed confidence.
The doctor performed the cystoscopy and, to everyone’s relief, found no signs of cancer.
“There’s nothing there,” the doctor declared, a moment that sparked joyous applause among those present.
Marvin’s testimony is not only about a medical victory but also about confronting fear and refusing to succumb to the enemy’s tactics.
He emphasized that the devil tries to instill fear about the future, but he rejects those lies.
“I’m going to be around,” he declared emphatically, dispelling rumors and negativity circulating online.
His story is a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and community support.
It encourages others facing health battles to hold on to hope and trust in healing, both physical and spiritual.
Marvin Winans’ openness about his cancer diagnosis and recovery journey shines a light on the human spirit’s capacity to overcome adversity through belief and resilience.
