Discovering an Ancient Pathway in the Cliffs: A Journey Through History
As I made my way closer, I couldn’t help but feel excited about what awaited me.
I’m Jeff, and you’re watching The Trek Planner.
Let’s go see what’s going on up there.

As I trekked across the terrain, I kept my eyes peeled for any hints of past human activity.
I noticed some lithic scatter, which are remnants of stone tools or artifacts, and followed old game trails and dry washes.
Suddenly, I spotted something on the ground—two large pieces of pottery that were clearly ancient.
The paint had worn off, indicating they had been there for a long time, and I was thrilled to find such artifacts in their natural setting.
Continuing my search, I discovered even more pieces, each one beautiful and worn down by time.

It was fascinating to think about why they were located right there and what stories they might tell.
The excitement grew as I stumbled upon a wall that appeared to be part of an ancient structure.
I thought I saw outlines of where these structures might have been, and I couldn’t wait to explore further.
Finally, I reached the base of the cliffs I had been aiming for, and as I looked up, I could see the path carved into the rock.
This ancient trail seemed to lead over a steep obstacle, and I felt a rush of exhilaration knowing that people had once traversed this very route.

As I climbed, I could see footholds carved into the rock, beautiful in their design and purpose.
These steps led up to a ledge, and I marveled at the thought of the ancient people who had once walked this path.
The view from up there was breathtaking, and I began to wonder who had traveled this way and what their lives had been like.
I noticed petroglyphs etched into the rocks, symbols that had withstood the test of time.
It was a poignant reminder of the connection between the past and the present, as many contemporary tribes are descendants of those who created these markings.

After taking in the surroundings, I found a flat spot to rest and decided to get my drone out for a better perspective of the area.
From above, I could see multiple routes carved into the cliff face.
One route was marked in orange and was a bit harder to follow, while another was clearly defined in yellow, leading upward to a main ledge.
The climb from the bottom to the top was approximately 160 feet, and I couldn’t help but imagine the effort it took for ancient climbers to carve these steps into the rock.
These pathways served as vital connections for families, traders, and communities, allowing them to navigate the challenging landscape.

As I examined the steps more closely, I could see the individual hammer marks left by the ancient builders.
They would have used quartzite hammers to chip away at the sandstone, which, while soft, would have taken considerable time and effort.
I spent a good hour marveling at the craftsmanship and history that surrounded me.
Before I left, I made sure to document everything to create a 3D model, preserving this incredible site for future generations.
After all, these ancient steps deserve our respect, and I wanted to ensure that their legacy is not lost to time.

As I packed up my gear, I reflected on the experiences I’ve had while exploring these ancient sites.
I cherish the connections I’ve made with fellow adventurers and the stories that have touched my heart.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
Let’s make 2026 the best year yet, and continue to explore and honor the histories that shape our world.
