First Lady Blake Shares Heartfelt Reflections on Pastor Lawrence Blake Sr.’s Final Days
First Lady Shine Blake began by expressing deep gratitude for the support from church leaders and members during this difficult time.
She acknowledged the presence of Bishop Joe L. Eely, Mother Barbara Bryant, and Mother Barbara Mun Lewis, highlighting the strength drawn from their shared faith community.
Describing Pastor Lawrence Blake Sr., she called him “amazing,” “loving,” and “faithful,” emphasizing his roles as a preacher, teacher, superintendent, husband, father, and spiritual leader.

She praised his unwavering strength throughout life’s challenges and how he instilled resilience in her and their children.
“We did not mourn like those who have no hope,” she declared, affirming their faith even amid sorrow.
Shine thanked the congregation for their prayers and support, assuring them that their comfort was deeply felt and appreciated.
Reflecting on the hospital stay that lasted 22 days, First Lady Blake shared the emotional rollercoaster of walking by faith rather than sight.
Though many expressed optimism that Pastor Blake would recover, she admitted uncertainty about the outcome.

Despite exhaustion, she remained steadfast by his side, supported at times by her mother and son, and never regretted those moments of care and devotion.
She recounted moments of laughter and joy shared with her husband even in the hospital, describing him as “just a funny dude” whose humor shone through until the end.
These memories, she said, help overshadow the sadness of loss.
First Lady Blake found comfort in the belief that Pastor Blake is now in a better place—“with Jesus Christ”—and shared one of his favorite sayings: that those who have passed can now see the hand that carried them all along.
This thought brought her peace and strength.

She also spoke about Pastor Blake’s spiritual journey, recalling how he was gently drawn into ministry by Bishop Blake, who made him his assistant and companion.
She encouraged others to surround themselves with believers, as faith and love for God naturally influence those around them.
Sharing a personal anecdote, Shine revealed that she was once a Jehovah’s Witness and initially hoped to bring her husband into that faith.
However, she gratefully acknowledged that Pastor Blake led her instead to “the real Jesus,” their Savior and God.
Their many discussions and even arguments about scripture ultimately strengthened their faith.

Despite the pain of losing her husband, First Lady Blake offered words of encouragement.
“It’s going to be rough, but God never said it would be easy,” she said.
She reminded listeners of God’s promise never to leave or forsake His people and spoke of feeling the Holy Spirit’s presence even now.
Her message was clear and powerful: “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
She affirmed that no weapon formed against them, not even death, would prosper.

Nothing can separate believers from the love of Jesus, and as long as God reigns, no one is ever truly alone.
Closing with a blessing, Shine Blake’s testimony was a testament to enduring faith, the power of community, and the hope that sustains through loss.
Her courage and openness provide comfort to many who grieve and inspire all to trust in God’s unfailing love.
