Brittany Cartwright is taking fans through the days that led up to her filing for divorce from Jax Taylor.
In the June 10 episode of The Valley, the reality star, 36, told her costars at Kristen Doute’s housewarming gathering that after moving out of their Los Angeles home following their January separation, Taylor, 45, “wrote me this really long email” saying that the house “was in foreclosure.”
“He could actually ruin my chances of owning another home or anything,” said Cartwright, who shares son Cruz, 4, with Taylor. “My name is on it just as much as his is. I would lose the money I put down, the equity we put in … If he doesn’t fix this I’m ready to fight.”
Cartwright also told the group that the day prior, Taylor’s therapist told her that he “made the girl who answers the phone cry because he told her that if anybody calls, lie and say he was on his way to Urgent Care.”
“She was sobbing, crying,” Cartwright recalled. “He made her feel like she had to tell people that, so the therapist had to tell all of us the truth that he never went to the hospital. I’m going through hell.”

Later in the episode, Cartwright met with a divorce lawyer the day before Taylor was set to leave rehab.
“I think it’s the right time before he gets out,” Cartwright said. “We separated in January of this year, I moved into an Airbnb for a while. We continued fighting, and nothing’s getting better.”
When asked what brought her to the appointment, Cartwright said Taylor’s “blowups [are] getting more and more aggressive.”
“He’s throwing furniture and punched walls and stuff but he hasn’t laid his hands on me,” she said. “Really bad. He is in rehab right now, he gets out tomorrow. He’s still been rage-texting me.”
Cartwright showed the texts Taylor sent to her the night before she “had to block him.”
In the texts, Taylor told Cartwright he knew she’s “drinking.” He also claimed that “everyone” is going to tell him if “you tattle on me again” and told her to “go party” while he’s in rehab.
“He’s so worried about me being with guys,” Cartwright said. “He was looking at me through the cameras and telling me what I was wearing. He is obsessed.”
Cartwright claimed Taylor “stopped paying the mortgage” when she moved out of their home following their separation.
“He’s always paid the mortgage, and I’ve always paid all the bills,” she explained. “He was so far behind on his taxes before we got married, I think it was $1.2 million behind. He was going to go to jail if I didn’t allow him to put it on our house.”
“Our mortgage went from $8,000 to like, $17,000 right now because of his stuff,” she continued. “They even took $100,000 out of my bank account just because I was married to him. He got a lease at a condo without telling me as well, and now moving forward he wants me to take over the house completely.”

When the lawyer asked Cartwright what Taylor’s contribution was now, she said, “I pay for everything for my son, never asked him to pay anything because he was taking care of the mortgage this whole time, I thought.”
Cartwright asked if she can start the divorce filing process, and the lawyer told her she can draw up the petition and file it for her within the next day.
“I’m so terrified I’m going to allow him to slowly make his way back into my life,” Cartwright said. “I need to go ahead and rip the Band-Aid off, get this process started and never look back. I know deep down this is the right next step.”
Cartwright ultimately filed for divorce from Taylor after he returned from rehab in August 2024, six months after the couple announced their separation and just over five years after they said “I do.” Taylor has since revealed his cocaine addiction, as well as his diagnosis with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD after years of struggling with his mental health.
“It’s been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I’ve come home to my son with a new found sense of peace,” he said in September of that year. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it.”
