Jack White gets fan letter meant for Jack Black: ‘Somebody got their wires crossed’

Is this the sign we needed for a “Jack Gray” reunion?!

Several years after Jack Black and Jack White gave fans their glorious “Jack Gray” collaboration, the crossover continues — albeit, by accident.

On Tuesday, the former White Stripes frontman took to social media to share a fan letter he received that’s actually meant for the Minecraft Movie star.

In a post to Instagram, White uploaded photos of a letter addressed to Black from a “big fan” and “avid autograph collector,” along with a trading card from the Topps Company featuring Black from his cameo appearance on season 3 of The Mandalorian. Black played Captain Bombardier, husband to Lizzo’s Duchess Bombardier.

The fan letter reads, “Dear Mr. Black, I hope you’re doing well. I’m a big fan and an avid autograph collector. Your roles in School of RockNacho LibreJumanji, and most importantly how you dominated playing the ‘Saxa-A-Boom’ haha, are all reasons I look up to you. Adding your autograph to my collection would be incredible.”

“I admire your acting, skills, and TikToks. It would mean a lot to me if you could sign my card,” the letter continues. “As I assumed, none of the card companies put out a card of you in your role of School of Rock. However, I found a card that is pretty awesome that Topps made. I enjoy Star Wars, so my hopes are high that you will consider autographing the card. Thank you for being awesome.”

In his post’s caption, White explained that the letter was sent to Third Man Records, the independent record label founded and owned by White, Ben Blackwell, and Ben Swank.

“I’m guessing somebody got their wires crossed,” he wrote. “I’m debating what I should do, any ideas?”

Singer Kelley Swindall commented that White should “Sign it, send it to JB, he signs it, then sends back to our awesome guy.”

A sweet thought, but we have a better idea.

“Jack Gray” was a collaboration between Jack White and Jack Black.Youtube
It’s been several years since White and Black united with the latter’s Tenacious D partner, Kyle Gass, to record a single and temporarily form an entirely new entity — “Jack Gray.” “Don’t Blow It, Kage,” which is credited to Tenacious D with White as a producer, is emblematic of Tenacious D’s usual style, with Black’s theatrical vocals and a heaping helping of parodic bravado.

Clearly, this is a sign for White to give the letter to Black in person, and give fans what they really want — another Jack Gray collab.
