In a heartfelt revelation that has stunned fans and the entertainment industry alike, Grammy-winning artist Justin Timberlake has opened up about his private health battle with Lyme disease — a condition he silently endured for months before receiving a proper diagnosis.
The 44-year-old singer made the announcement via Instagram on July 31, just one day after completing the final leg of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour in Istanbul, marking his first international tour in over a decade.
Timberlake, who returned to the spotlight in 2024 with the release of his sixth studio album Everything I Thought It Was, had spent the past two years on a rigorous tour schedule that spanned more than 40 cities across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Fans noticed his performances toward the end of the tour seemed “off,” with some criticizing what they saw as low energy or inconsistent vocals.
Now, with the truth out, many are seeing those moments in a new light.

“I was shocked for sure,” Timberlake wrote in his Instagram post. “But at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.
If you’ve experienced this disease or know someone who has — then you’re aware: living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.”
Lyme disease, commonly caused by a tick bite, often presents early with flu-like symptoms and can evolve into serious complications like joint inflammation, nerve pain, and even cognitive fog.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, undiagnosed Lyme can lead to long-term neurological and muscular damage — symptoms that Timberlake had reportedly been quietly struggling with for months.
A close family source shared that Timberlake initially brushed off the early signs, attributing his fatigue, body aches, and recurring illness to the demands of touring and simply “not being 20 anymore.”
However, his wife, actress Jessica Biel, reportedly sensed something more serious was happening.
“She felt like something was off,” the insider said. “Justin wasn’t himself. He was pushing through, but Jess encouraged him to get checked out. She’s been incredibly supportive throughout this.”
Biel, 43, has remained by Timberlake’s side every step of the way — from hospital visits to helping manage his symptoms during grueling tour stops.
The couple, who married in 2012, are parents to sons Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4. Sources say Timberlake is now prioritizing his health, taking time off to rest and recover with his family at their Los Angeles home.
“He’s taking it seriously,” the source added. “The plan is to slow down, focus on treatment, and spend time with Jess and the kids. He loved touring and reconnecting with fans, but right now, healing is the priority.”
Timberlake’s diagnosis also sheds light on a string of recent cancellations and delays during his tour. In early 2025, several shows were postponed due to what was publicly attributed to “back pain, bronchitis, and laryngitis.”
Unbeknownst to fans at the time, these setbacks were likely related to the undiagnosed Lyme disease.
Despite the immense physical toll, Timberlake remained committed to finishing the tour — a fact not lost on his *NSYNC bandmates, who rallied behind him with messages of support.
Chris Kirkpatrick, 53, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing: “Watching him battle Lyme disease day in and day out, while still getting on that stage night after night, was something I’ll never forget… Tour life is already a grind, but doing it while fighting Lyme disease? That’s superhero status.”

The diagnosis marks a turning point for Timberlake, who also shared in his post that he was initially reluctant to go public about his illness. “I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself,” he wrote.
“But I’m trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren’t misinterpreted.
Sharing all of this with the hope that we can all find a way to be more connected. I’d like to do my part to help others experiencing this disease too.”
With his touring days now on pause and his focus shifted toward recovery, Timberlake’s fans are sending overwhelming support, flooding social media with well wishes and stories of their own experiences with Lyme disease.
From chart-topping performances to a deeply personal battle away from the cameras, Justin Timberlake’s latest chapter reveals not just the pain behind the spotlight — but the strength it takes to keep going, even when no one sees the struggle.
