Usher Says ‘It Would Be Foolish’ to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show Without Inviting Lil Jon and Ludacris

Usher revealed to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ on Thursday that he would be a “fool” to not perform his hit 2004 song ‘Yeah’

Usher is speaking about his upcoming Super Bowl LVIII halftime show performance on Sunday.

The singer, 45, revealed to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday that he would be a ‘fool,’ to not perform his hit 2004 song “Yeah,” with the song’s featured artists Ludacris and Lil Jon being “here” in Las Vegas.

“I would be a fool to not play ‘Yeah!’ let’s just start there,” Usher said.

“It would be foolish to make it all the way to Las Vegas, Jon is here, Luda’s here and not play ‘Yeah!’ “.

Usher’s recent comments about his upcoming performance come after he opened up about having to squeeze a 30-year career into 13 minutes.

“I gotta do it in 13 minutes,” Usher said in a press conference interview with Apple Music on Thursday.

“That makes it a bit difficult.”.

He added that “it’s definitely been a challenge to squeeze 30 years into 13 minutes.”.

“I was very mindful of my past, celebrating my present — which is here in Las Vegas — and thinking about where we’re headed in the future,” he added.

“That was really the idea.”.

The “U Got It Bad” singer also explained that he thought about special moments in his Las Vegas residency, “like skating,” adding that people will be able to “get a chance to see some of what I did here.”.

“But you’re going to get the best of it because it’s before 60,000 people in this room — and hopefully 180,000 people, 80 million people for the world to see,” he continued.

Usher, who is also embarking on a North American tour, revealed to Apple Music on Thursday the one thing he remembers about appearing alongside the Black Eyed Peas in the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show.

“My hand got caught in the wire that was holding me like 30 feet in the air,” he said.

“And I almost missed my first mark. I was like, ‘Oh my God, don’t let this malfunction caused me to miss something.’ ”.

However, he also added that he remembered how “amazing” it was to perform in front of a large crowd, adding that it ignited his passion for having his own Superbowl Halftime Show.

“But it was really fueled by being able to be just in that moment with the Black Eyed Peas,” Usher said.

The Kansas City Chiefs will play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII, which kicks off on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
