Even before playing the problematic lead-in Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen’s life took a dark turn after his career came to a brief halt.

While Two and a Half Men proved to be one of Charlie Sheen’s biggest hits to date, the sitcom and its lead in particular were criticized for its controversial undertones.

Although the sitcom skipped over the consequences of Charlie Harper’s problematic lifestyle, which was primarily used for its comedic bits, in the real world, things weren’t very funny.

But even before committing to the popular sitcom, Sheen didn’t exactly lead an ideal lifestyle, which he confessed back in the early 2000s.

From smoking his first joint at 11 to getting expelled from school at 17, Charlie Sheen‘s self-destructive tendencies kept on escalating in the following years, especially after his Hollywood career stalled.

After missing the lead gig in Born on the Fourth of July, which he was apparently promised, the Platoon star’s life took a dark turn, as he went from earning millions from movies to being unemployable.

During this period, the actor confessed about f-cking “a five-months-pregnant Mexican whore with cesarean scars”.

He told Playboy (via Vanity Fair):

I went from making multi-million-dollar deals on movies and fucking Playmates to being unemployable and fucking a five-months-pregnant Mexican whore with cesarean scars, in a bar in Nogales.

Although this seems like something Harper would do in Two and a Half Men, considering it occurred before Sheen committed to the sitcom, this further cements Chuck Lorre’s viewpoint about the character.

Speaking of Charlie Harper’s destructive lifestyle, which mainly served as the basis for the show’s comedic bits, Chuck Lorre once expressed that his character wouldn’t be remotely funny if translated into the real world.

Elaborating on it, Lorre described Harper as a wish-fulfillment character, as he was exempt from any sort of consequences.

Charlie in my mind… was a wish fulfillment.

He was a magical character… You know, imagine a character who is a bottomless drunk, there is, you know, there’s the comedy hangover but not much more.

There’s no DUIs, there’s no liver disease…

Lorre wasn’t wrong, as Charlie Sheen’s destructive lifestyle eventually earned him the boot from Two and a Half Men following his outbursts off-screen.
