Ben Affleck Calls Out Kevin Costner’s 1989 Movie Flashback Facade

Kevin Costner says he remembers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Field of Dreams, but the DCEU star is not entirely convinced for one reason.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon started in the movie industry at a young age, and even so, they have already shown what they can offer.

In fact, the power duo joined Kevin Costner’s 1989 sports drama movie Field of Dreams even though they were only extras.

Well, they had to start somewhere, right?

While the Yellowstone actor claimed he fondly remembers them, Affleck is not convinced.

He thinks that Costner was only being nice when he said this, but in reality, he does not really recall seeing them on the movie set.

Ben Affleck still remembers the time he worked alongside Matt Damon as an extra in Kevin Costner’s Field of Dreams.

They were only teenagers back then who appeared in the Fenway Park scene.

In fact, this was eight years before they wrote and starred in the Academy Award-winning title Good Will Hunting, which launched them to critical acclaim.

In short, Affleck and Damon were relatively unknown people for Costner to recognize on the set.

During his visit on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Justice League star shared what it was like meeting the veteran actor for the first time and how Costner was only being polite when he claimed he remembered Affleck and Damon.

Kevin is being kind saying he remembers us because we were not memorable.

It’s sweet of him to say that, but I’m pretty sure he remembers the actors with lines.

Affleck noted that his experience meeting Costner, as well as James Earl Jones, face-to-face was like seeing God.

The Massachusetts native went from a movie extra to a struggling actor, but now, he has achieved worldwide fame and remains an A-list star.

Last May 2024, Costner visited Jimmy Kimmel Live and affectionately narrated how he remembers the duo.

He said they were sitting in the stands like college guys, and both loved being on the set.

“They had this big enthusiasm.

They were on fire.

I do remember them, absolutely,” the actor said.

Whether this is true or not—or if Affleck genuinely thinks Costner does not remember him, one thing’s for sure: that movie they starred in was a stepping stone in their career, and fans won’t be watching it the same way again after they learned Affleck and Damon got their start in it.

Affleck is currently busy promoting his latest project, The Accountant 2, which opens today.

It is the sequel to the 2016 installment, which was a box office success.

There are lots of reasons why the follow-up movie took so long to make.

Apart from the pandemic and the strike, Affleck was also busy with his big-budget projects.

The focus on mainstream titles over small-budget movies also contributed to the delay.

Nonetheless, it is here now, and it is packed with action and a mystery to solve.
