Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder have maintained a close friendship for over 30 years.

Recently, on the podcast Happy Sad Confused, Winona Ryder revealed details about their special relationship.

The two stars portrayed Jonathan Harker and Mina Murray in the horror film Dracula in 1992, and they jokingly refer to each other as “husband” and “wife,” even though they are both happily in love with others now.

During the filming of Dracula, director Francis Ford Coppola hired a real Romanian priest to conduct their wedding scene in a church, complete with formal rituals, making it feel like a real wedding.

When asked how they have kept in touch over the years, Winona shared, “We still text each other regularly, and we always clarify who we are, even if it is clear in the messages.

On his birthday, when I text him, ‘Happy birthday, my husband,’ he replies, ‘Oh, wife, love you, KR57,’ or mentions his age at that time.

He always does that.”

Their playful banter and the fact that they had a formal wedding ceremony lead them to joke about being married, even though they are not legally bound and do not have a romantic relationship.

Keanu once mentioned that he and Winona “were married under the eyes of God.”

In a 2018 interview, Winona expressed that the authentic experience of filming that scene made her feel as if she and her on-screen love truly were married in real life.

She also admitted to having special feelings for her co-star.

In a joint interview, Winona revealed that she had a crush on Keanu, and he reciprocated those feelings.

In addition to Dracula, Keanu and Winona collaborated on the films A Scanner Darkly in 2006 and Destination Wedding in 2018.
