R. Kelly Seeks to Overturn Conviction Amid Allegations of Corruption and Murder-for-Hire Plot

R. Kelly, the former R&B superstar currently incarcerated, has filed a significant motion in Illinois aimed at vacating his federal conviction.

His attorney claims that there is substantial prosecutorial corruption and manipulation involved in the case.

This motion comes as Kelly alleges that officials from the Bureau of Prisons are involved in a plot to kill him.

Attorney Beau B. Brindley filed the motion for a new trial and an emergency motion for bond on behalf of Kelly, who is serving a combined sentence of 31 years at FCI Butner Medium I in North Carolina.

Kelly was convicted in 2021 on charges of racketeering and s*xual misconduct, as well as a 2022 conviction for producing child pornography.

The new motion cites newly discovered evidence that suggests a coordinated effort by prosecutors in the Northern District of Illinois to imprison Kelly after he was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008.

Allegations of Prosecutorial Misconduct

Brindley claims that federal prosecutors and Bureau of Prisons officials have engaged in intimidation, obstructed justice, and violated Kelly’s constitutional rights.

He stated that the motion reveals the extent of the alleged crimes committed in the pursuit of Kelly, along with the purported plot to silence him permanently to prevent these actions from being uncovered.

In the motion filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Kelly contends that prosecutors utilized Bureau of Prisons officials and cooperating witnesses to engage in illegal activities, thus infringing on his rights.

This filing follows a recent denial from a federal judge regarding an emergency request from Kelly to be released from prison to home confinement.

Kelly had sought this release amid alarming allegations that officials had coerced another inmate into attempting to murder him.

Recently, Kelly was hospitalized due to an apparent drug overdose, which his attorney claims was caused by being administered a lethal dose of medication while in solitary confinement.

Health Concerns and Legal Challenges

Brindley expressed concerns over Kelly’s health, mentioning that he had blood clots in his lungs.

He reported that he struggled to communicate with Kelly until June 13 and that the singer had not eaten anything from June 10 to June 12.

Following these health issues, Brindley filed an emergency motion for home detention.

However, Judge Martha Pacold ruled that Kelly’s recent request was submitted to the wrong court and that she lacked the jurisdiction to address it.

Consequently, Brindley submitted the latest motions, alleging that Kelly is a victim of corrupt prosecutors and a murderous Bureau of Prisons determined to eliminate him.

Shocking Declarations from Inmates

On Friday, Brindley’s office provided a series of legal documents, including a signed declaration from Mikael Glenn Stein, a high-ranking member of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang.

In this declaration, Stein detailed how he acted on behalf of the Bureau of Prisons to carry out violent acts in exchange for better treatment and privileges while incarcerated.

He claimed that he had ordered multiple assaults and murders at various institutions, receiving special privileges in return.

Stein also mentioned that he was instructed by a BOP official named “Childress” to execute R. Kelly upon his transfer to the facility.

However, Stein ultimately chose not to proceed with this plan, expressing that he does not support Kelly but believes that Kelly’s prosecution was marred by corruption.

Additional Claims of Misconduct

Brindley’s motion also includes a declaration from a former inmate and Kelly’s roommate, Kishan Modugumudi.

Modugumudi alleged that he was instructed to steal Kelly’s correspondence with his legal team, which was then used to gain an unfair advantage in the prosecution.

Furthermore, the motion accuses prosecutors of coercing a key witness to alter her testimony from Kelly’s 2008 trial.

The witness, referred to as “Jane,” had previously asserted that she was not the woman depicted in a controversial video that became central to the case against Kelly.

The motion claims that the prosecutors resorted to threats and deception to manipulate this witness into testifying against Kelly during the 2021 trial.
