Antony fell flat in Real Betis’ Conference League defeat to Gent while Barcelona flop Vitor Roque was sent off for a rash tackle on Archie Brown.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Holding a comfortable three-goal advantage from the first leg, the Spanish side failed to extend their lead on home soil. Their inability to capitalise on chances proved costly as Brown netted late in the game, handing the visitors a narrow victory on the night. However, Betis’ aggregate lead ensured their place in the UEFA Conference League’s last 16.

Manchester United loanee Antony has been making waves in La Liga, quickly becoming a standout performer for Betis. His impressive displays have even earned him a nomination for La Liga Player of the Month, alongside the likes of Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe. The former Ajax man had been in electric form, finding the net in three consecutive matches and receiving widespread praise for his performances. However, his goal streak came to an end against Gent, as he struggled to make an impact in what was an overall underwhelming night for Betis.

Meanwhile, Roque was sent off following a late challenge on Brown in the 82nd minute. Initially escaping punishment, the Brazilian’s fate was sealed after referee Damian Sylwestrzak consulted VAR and overturned his initial decision, issuing a straight red card. Roque’s dismissal not only meant he missed the final minutes of the game but also ruled him out of Betis’ first-leg fixture in the last 16, where they will either face Chelsea or Vitoria de Guimaraes.
