22-year-old Tyler James Robinson appeared in court wearing a safety smock designed to prevent suicide, highlighting the intense security concerns surrounding the high-profile case.

Surveillance footage first alerted his mother, who believed the images showed her son.

She called him to ask where he had been, to which Robinson responded he had been home sick.

But her suspicions were raised further, and she confided in Robinson’s father.

According to prosecutors, Robinson’s parents described a stark ideological shift over the past year.

He had become more politically active, leaning left and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.

Robinson also began dating his roommate, a biological male undergoing gender transition.

These differences sparked intense discussions at home, particularly between Robinson and his father, who held opposing political views.

Prosecutors say Robinson hinted at his intentions during a family discussion, telling his parents he “couldn’t go to jail” and just wanted to end it.

A family friend ultimately persuaded Robinson to turn himself in, averting further tragedy.

Chilling text messages also surfaced, revealing Robinson’s premeditation.

Prosecutors allege he sent his roommate a message instructing them to look under a keyboard, where a note was found stating: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kurt, and I’m going to take it.

” The roommate questioned Robinson’s involvement, to which Robinson confessed: “I am.  I’m sorry.”

He then instructed his roommate to delete the texts and avoid contacting authorities.

Forensic evidence further tied Robinson to the crime.

Investigators found DNA on the trigger of the bolt-action rifle allegedly used in the shooting, as well as target boards in his apartment.

When questioned about the timeline of planning, Robinson reportedly admitted it had been over a week.

The FBI has confirmed that its investigation is ongoing, particularly regarding an online group chat Robinson may have been part of, suggesting the possibility of additional collaborators.

Authorities have not released further details on the scope of that investigation.
