Browns Exploring Trades After OT Injury
The Cleveland Browns are in a scramble to patch up their offensive line following a devastating injury to Dawand Jones, who has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury.
With the team now exploring trade options and internal solutions, the urgency to fill this significant void has never been higher.

Dawand Jones suffered his knee injury early in the Week 3 matchup, and it has since been confirmed that it is season-ending, likely requiring surgery and an extensive recovery period.
Before this unfortunate turn of events, Jones was considered a foundational piece of the Browns’ offensive line, having been drafted in 2023 and starting the season at left tackle.
In light of his injury, the Browns wasted no time and promptly placed him on injured reserve.
To bolster their depth, Cleveland has signed Thayer Munford Jr. off the New England Patriots’ practice squad.
Munford, a former 7th-round pick of the Raiders, comes with experience as a starter and provides a credible option when called upon.
However, while Munford adds some depth to the roster, he may be viewed more as a temporary solution rather than a long-term fix at left tackle.
The urgency for reliable protection on the blind side cannot be understated, especially with the current state of the team’s offensive line.

Given the limitations of their internal options, the Browns are reportedly exploring the trade market for veteran tackles who could potentially step into the lineup.
According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, general manager Andrew Berry is actively seeking possible deals, particularly for players whose contracts may be expiring soon or who are in transitional roles with their current teams.
Among the names being discussed are aging veterans like Rob Havenstein from the Rams and Braden Smith from the Colts, both of whom could serve as effective stopgap solutions.
However, Cleveland’s front office may be cautious about giving up too much draft capital for short-term assistance, especially considering their broader roster projects and the need to preserve future assets.
The injury to Jones has a ripple effect on the offensive line, forcing other players to adjust their roles.
Veteran Cornelius Lucas, who was already filling in at different positions along the line, may temporarily slide into the left tackle role while the team evaluates other options.
The Browns’ depth at guard and tackle spots allows for some internal shuffling, enabling them to move players around to create the best possible alignment under pressure.
Additionally, with Jack Conklin’s injuries raising concerns about his strength and durability, the Browns must tread carefully when relying on aging starters.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Browns face critical decisions that will shape their offensive line for the remainder of the season:
-
Trade Moves: Will Cleveland finalize a deal? If so, how much draft capital are they willing to part with for a veteran player?
Starting Lineup: How will Munford perform in practice and preseason reps? Can Lucas or other players successfully adapt to new roles?
Chemistry & Protection: The blind side is a high-pressure position for any quarterback; any new addition must adapt quickly to ensure protection.
Long-Term Planning: Beyond addressing the immediate need, Cleveland will want to develop a sustainable offensive line core for future seasons.

The loss of Dawand Jones is undoubtedly a setback for the Browns, but their proactive approach and willingness to explore the trade market demonstrate that they are not standing idly by.
Whether through internal adjustments or external acquisitions, the team must stabilize their front line swiftly to keep their offense functioning effectively.
With the clock ticking, all eyes will be on the Browns as they navigate this challenging period and seek to fortify their offensive line.
