“Woody Allen Honors Diane Keaton with Heartfelt Tribute Following Her Death at 79”
Filmmaker Woody Allen has penned a poignant tribute to his former partner and longtime collaborator, Diane Keaton, following her death on October 11, 2025, at the age of 79.
Keaton, renowned for her roles in Annie Hall, The Godfather, and The First Wives Club, passed away in Los Angeles after a period of declining health.
The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
In an emotional essay for The Free Press, Allen reflected on his deep admiration for Keaton, describing her as “so charming, so beautiful, so magical.

” He reminisced about their first meeting in 1969 during auditions for his play Play It Again, Sam, which led to a five-year romantic relationship and eight film collaborations, including the Oscar-winning Annie Hall.
Allen expressed that he cared only for her opinion on his work, calling her his “north star” and praising her unique spirit and enduring influence on him.
Keaton’s passing has left a profound impact on those who knew her.
Actor Ed Begley Jr., who worked with Keaton in Book Club, described her as “wonderful” and fondly recalled their recent encounter at Jack Nicholson’s birthday celebration.
He emphasized her warmth and immense talent, highlighting the deep friendship they shared.
Director Nancy Meyers, who collaborated with Keaton on films such as Father of the Bride and Something’s Gotta Give, paid tribute to her as a “brilliant” and “one-of-a-kind” talent.
Meyers reflected on their nearly 40-year friendship and professional collaboration, noting Keaton’s unique talent, vulnerability, and humor.

She shared personal memories, such as Keaton’s offbeat method of spinning in circles to prepare for scenes, which reflected her fearlessness and spontaneity.
Goldie Hawn, who starred alongside Keaton in The First Wives Club, expressed her sorrow over the loss of her close friend.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Hawn described Keaton as humble, brilliant, and irreplaceable, reminiscing about the joyful moments they shared on set and expressing sorrow over their unfulfilled plans to live together in later life with close friends.
Keaton is survived by her two children, daughter Dexter and son Duke.
Her family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
Fans and colleagues alike continue to honor her legacy, celebrating her contributions to cinema and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those who had the privilege of working with her.
