NFL Commissioner: Taylor Swift a ‘maybe’ for Super Bowl halftime show

NEW YORK (KCTV) – The biggest superstar in music could be playing on one of the biggest stages in the world next year.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell appeared on the Today Show Wednesday morning and said there’s a possibility Taylor Swift will be playing the Super Bowl halftime show next February.
“We would always love to have Taylor play,” Goodell told Savannah Guthrie. “She is a special, special talent and obviously she would be welcome at any time.”
When pressed if it was in the works, Goodell said, “I can’t tell you anything about that.”
“It’s a maybe,” Goodell, a self-proclaimed Swiftie, said of the Super Bowl 60 halftime show. “It’s a maybe.”
The Super Bowl halftime show performer is typically announced in September, with each of the past three performers (Kendrick Lamar, Usher and Rihanna) having been announced before the calendar turns to October.
“I’m waiting on my friend Jay-Z to be able to help me with that one,” Goodell said about the announcement timing for this year’s performer. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is contracted by the NFL to produce the show. “It’s in his hands. I’m waiting for the smoke to come out.”

Goodell appeared on the Today Show a day before the league is set to kick off its 2025 season with a game between the Dallas Cowboys and reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Friday night, Swift’s fiancée Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil.
It’s unclear if Swift will be in Sao Paulo for the game. She and Kelce announced their engagement last week and Kelce addressed it on Wednesday in the latest episode of his New Heights Podcast.
When Swift appeared on Kelce’s podcast two weeks ago, Swifties debated whether an extended period of time in the episode discussing her obsession with baking sourdough was one of her Easter eggs, given the San Francisco 49ers — who host the Super Bowl — have a mascot named ‘Sourdough Sam.’

The NFL does not pay its Super Bowl halftime show performers, instead, artists rely on the exposure from the most-watched television broadcast of the year to help them garner exposure. Front Office Sports reported that Usher earned an estimated $52.5 million in exposure when he performed two years ago during Super Bowl 58, which featured the Chiefs and 49ers.
