Madonna fans have been treated to a surprise video clip released on the singer’s Instagram which shows the 66-year-old superstar writhing on the ground wearing lingerie.

The busty display, in which the Like a Virgin singer pouts on all fours, was shared with fans to tease the re-release of her Bedtime Stories album. The star said: “Bedtime Stories Re-release and Vinyl coming soon!” sparking an excited reaction from fans. The new edition, called Bedtime Stories: The Untold Chapter, will reportedly feature a never before heard track and early demos from the main manuscript.

Her post quickly racked up over 129,000 likes with some fans posting hearts, while others said: “Love you” and “so excited” at news of the release.

The album was originally released in 1994 and celebrated its 30th anniversary last October, it explores lyrical themes of love and romance, but with a toned-down, less sexual approach than her previous release Erotica, which some critics felt had gone too far.

The original video for Bedtime Story came out in 1995 providing a dreamlike and avant garde visual experience to accompany the star’s 1994 song, the third track on the Bedtime Stories album.

The song was written by Icelandic singer Björk, who reportedly based the lyrics on ideas and concepts she had always wanted to hear Madonna say.

The video was directed by American filmmaker Mark Romanek and its extensive use of visual effects meant it ended up being one of the most expensive music videos of all time, with a reported bill of US$5 million (over US$10 million in 2024).

The surreal vid features a dreamlike Madonna with white hair over imagery of religion, love and death.

The video shoot faced various complications including when it had to be stopped following an earthquake and Madonna got dyed in blue from sitting too long in a colored-water tank.

The video ends with a memorable and bizarre scene which shows Madonna with mouths for eyes, and an eye for a mouth, as she sings the lyrics.

Critics have likened the original video to a “moving painting” that allowed the pop star to enter “the portals of high art”. A Billboard poll of the singer’s 10 greatest videos ranked Bedtime Story as fifth.
