Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos revealed on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” that many viewers discover their show, “Live with Kelly and Mark,” while hospitalized, highlighting the show’s comforting and non-anxiety-inducing nature, which resonates with fans seeking light-hearted entertainment during tough times.
During a recent appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on July 15, 2025, talk show hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos revealed an unexpected fact about their daytime program, “Live with Kelly and Mark.”
The couple, who began co-hosting together in 2023 after Ryan Seacrest’s departure, shared that many viewers first encounter their show while hospitalized.
This intriguing revelation came as host Seth Meyers asked about the unique ways people become familiar with their talk show.
Meyers, 51, brought up the quirky notion, saying, “I’ve heard you say that there’s a place where a lot of people will discover Kelly and Mark, which is when they’re hospitalized.”
Ripa, 54, confirmed this surprising claim with a chuckle, stating, “These are facts.” She recounted how fans often approach her to share their stories about discovering the show during their hospital stays.
“I used to jokingly say it like, ‘Were you hospitalized?’ and they would go, ‘Yes! How did you…?’” she laughed, highlighting the unexpected connection between their show and viewers in recovery.
Ripa elaborated on why their show resonates in such settings, explaining that it provides a comforting escape.
“I realize it’s a show that sort of just universally plays in hospitals because it’s like not anxiety-inducing,” she noted, adding that they intentionally avoid discussing politics or heavy topics. Meyers quickly chimed in, dubbing the show as having a “healing power.”
Ripa humorously responded, “There’s a healing power to watching mom and dad fight,” referring to the playful banter she shares with Consuelos, which often resembles a light-hearted argument.
Consuelos, 54, agreed, mentioning that their show serves as a “safe place to have those arguments” where nothing gets out of control.
“We can kind of have a good argument on TV,” he noted, further emphasizing the couple’s dynamic that appeals to viewers.
Their chemistry and ability to engage in playful debates have become a hallmark of their hosting style, making the show relatable and enjoyable for audiences.
The couple’s journey together began long before their current hosting role. Ripa and Consuelos first met in 1995 during his audition for the soap opera “All My Children,” where they both starred.
Their on-screen romance blossomed into a real-life relationship, leading them to elope in Las Vegas in 1996 after a brief split.
The couple’s spontaneous decision to marry came after Consuelos jokingly suggested, “Since we don’t have to work tomorrow, why don’t we fly to Vegas and get married?” They tied the knot at the Chapel of the Bells and now share three children: Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22.
When Meyers inquired whether their children watch the show, Ripa responded with a laugh that they do not.
“So people like to watch their parents fight, except for your children,” Meyers joked, highlighting the humorous disconnect between their public personas and family life.
Ripa’s lighthearted acknowledgment of her children’s disinterest adds a relatable twist to their family dynamic, contrasting the couple’s engaging on-screen presence with their private life.
The conversation also touched on the challenges of hosting a daytime talk show in today’s competitive landscape. With the departure of Ryan Seacrest, who had co-hosted alongside Ripa for years, fans were eager to see how the new duo would navigate the show.
Since Consuelos joined Ripa, they have managed to create a unique atmosphere that resonates with viewers, combining humor, warmth, and a sense of familiarity.
As “Live with Kelly and Mark” continues to air weekday mornings, the couple’s playful banter and genuine connection have solidified their place in daytime television.
Their ability to connect with audiences, even in unexpected places like hospitals, speaks to the show’s universal appeal and comforting presence.
With their engaging personalities and relatable stories, Ripa and Consuelos are redefining what it means to be a talk show host, proving that sometimes, laughter and love are the best medicine.
